Central Recruitment & Promotion Department, State Bank of India, Corporate Centre, Mumbai invites on-line applications from Indian citizens for appointment in the Clerical Cadre posts in State Bank of India.

Candidates are requested to apply online between before May 31, 2008 through Bank’s website www.statebankofindia.com and www.sbi.co.in.

For applying on-line, the candidates should go to a CBS branch of SBI, pay the amount of fees and get cash Receipt with unique deposit journal number. This number should be correctly entered while registering an application on-line. No other means / mode of application / print-out will be accepted.

Date of Written Examination: July 6, 2008

Educational Qualification [as on July 1, 2008]
a. Minimum 12th standard (10+2) pass or equivalent qualification there of with a minimum of 60% marks (55% for SC/ST/PWD/XS). OR A degree from a recognised university (graduation level) with a minimum of 40% marks (35% for SC/ST/PWD/XS).Candidates appearing for the 12th/Graduation examinations during 2008 will be allowed to appear provisionally for the written examination subject to their submitting the original mark-sheet as a proof of passing the qualifying examination at the time of interview, if called for the same.

b. Should be able to write and speak English fluently.

c. Knowledge of other Indian language will be an added qualification.

Age:
a) Minimum Age : 18 years ; Maximum Age : 28 years (as on 01.07.2008.) Candidates born between 30.06.1980 & 01.07.1990 both days inclusive are only eligible to apply.
b) The upper age limit will be relaxed as under :
i) For SC/ST, Orthopaedically handicapped, Ex-servicemen/Disabled Ex-servicemen/OBC etc. as per guidelines laid down by Government of India.
ii) For persons who have ordinarily been domiciled in Kashmir Division of J & K State during 01.01.80 to 31.12.89, by 5 years.
iii) For widows, divorced women & women judicially separated from their husbands & who are not remarried, by 9 years, subject to maximum age limit of 35 years for General and 40 years for SC/ST Candidates.

SC / ST / PWD / XS: Rs. 50/- (Postal Charges only)
All Others: Rs. 250/- (App. fees plus postage charges)

Selection Procedure:
All eligible candidates should apply online before the last date for registering of applications.
a) Final selection will be made on the basis of performance in the written test and interview taken together. Merely satisfying the eligibility norms does not entitle a candidate to be called for written test or interview. The questions in objective tests, except for the test of General English, will be printed bilingual i.e., in English & Hindi.

b) The written test will be of Objective type consisting of (i) General Awareness (ii) General English (iii) Quantitative Aptitude (iv) Reasoning Ability (v) Marketing Aptitute / Computer Knowledge

There will be negative marks for the wrong answers in the Objective tests. Candidates will have to pass in each of the objective tests.

UPSC will hold a written exam on October 5, 2008 for recruitment of Assistant Commandants (Group A) in the Central Police forces.

Application form can be purchased from the designated Head Post Offices/Post Offices located throughout India.

Last date for the receipt of application is June 9, 2008.

When the First World War was being fought the slogan that was raised by the Allies and which caught the imagination of youngmen promised that it was a war to end all wars. And now we realise that we know where it lives, that it is inside ourselves. Man is pugnacious by instinct. He must be born a new and born different. The average human intelligence is pretty little and that little is kept down by his passions and emotions. A few unscrupulous but clever firebrands influence his adrenal glands thereby rousing his baser instincts. Unless, therefore, human beings become, like Shaw’s Ancients, passionless Intelligences, there is no hope for humanity. Wars will go on causing destruction and devastation, opening a vein that bleeds humanity to death.

Combined Defence Services Examination will be conducted by the Union Public Service Commission on 14th September, 2008 for admission to:
Indian Military Academy Dehradun 127th Course Commencing in July, 2009 [includes 32 vacancies reserved for NCC ‘C' Certificate (Army Wing) holders].
Naval Academy Goa-Course commencing in July, 2009 Executive (General service/Hydro) [including ten reserved for NCC ‘C' Certificate holders (Naval Wing)].
Air Force Academy, Hyderabad (Pre-Flying) Training Course commencing in July, 2009 i.e. No.186th F(P) Course.
Officers’ Training Academy, Chennai 90th SSC Course (for men) commencing in October, 2009.
Officers’ Training Academy, Chennai (Madras) 4th SSC Women Non-Technical Course commencing in October, 2009.

Admission to the above courses will be made on the results of the written examination to be conducted by the Commission followed by intelligence and personality test by the Services Selection Board of candidates who qualify in the written examination. Candidates are advised to read carefully the “Instructions for filling up the Application Form” given in Appendix-II of this notice.

LAST DATE FOR RECEIPT OF APPLICATIONS: All applications must reach the “Secretary, Union Public Service Commission, Dholpur House, Shahjahan Road, New Delhi - 110069″ either by hand or by Post/Speed Post or by Courier, on or before the 19th May, 2008.

However, in respect of candidates residing abroad or in certain remote localities specified in para 6 of this Notice the last date for receipt of application by Post/Speed Post only (not by Hand or by Courier) is 26th May 2008.

Shri O.P. Khanna, founder and editor of The Competition Master, died on March 31, 2008. He was 87.

He was a visionary who made a niche for himself in the world of publishing. All the aspirants for the IAS, Bank Officers, Defence Officers and other competitive examinations during the last almost five decades would remember him as a legendary person who strived hard to assist them in their endeavour to get into the prestigious services of their choice.

In 1947, he was uprooted from his home town of Jhelum (now in Pakistan) after the partition of the country. He landed as a refugee in Ambala Cantt (Haryana) with practically nothing on hand. From here started his journey, first as a book seller and later as author of a guide for Post & Telegraph Recruitment exam. By 1958 he had compiled and published several guides and GK books for various competitive exams being held in India, including Civil Services exam and NDA/CDS exam. Two General Knowledge books written by him, “General Knowledge Refresher” and “Ever-Latest General Knowledge” continue to be very popular books in their segment.

In 1959 he conceived the idea to start a magazine to help the youth of India to build a successful career for themselves. On July 20, 1959 the inaugural issue of The Competition Master was published and almost 50 years since then the magazine continues to be a useful resource for all young Indians aspiring to make a successful career for themselves.

We remain committed to continue to work on high standards that he set for us and his vision will continue to be our guiding light.

He is survived by his wife, two sons and a daughter. His elder son, Desh Deepak Khanna, has now taken over as the Editor of The Competition Master.
