Deven Verma: Veteran Hindi film character actor, director and producer, he died on 2 December 2014 at age 77. He is best remembered for roles in movies such as “Angoor”, “Chori Mera Kaam”, “Andaz Apna Apna”, “Bemisal”, “Judaai”, “Dil To Paagal Hai”, and “Kora Kagaz”.
K. Balachander: Veteran Tamil filmmaker, he died on 23 December 2014. Popularly referred to in the Tamil film industry as ‘Iyakunar Sigaram,’ he received the Dadasaheb Phalke award, the highest recognition for excellence in cinema in the country, in 2010. He directed over 100 films and was revered for being a talent-spotter both among artistes and technicians. The two greatest talents he nurtured are Kamal Hassan and Rajinikanth. He entered the film industry as a scriptwriter. He was also a producer, actor and play-writer. He established himself as a director with “Neer Kumizhi”, a film that won a National Award.
Justice (Retd) V.R. Krishna Iyer: Renowned jurist and former Supreme Court judge who has given a human face to Indian judicial system, he died on 4 December 2014 at age 100. It was he who had quashed the Allahabad High Court order invalidating election result of the former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi being elected from the Raebareli constituency. This ultimately led to the national emergency declaration. He had also paved way for the judicial activism by giving a ruling being SC judge that the complaint received by judges can be treated as a petition. He also introduced the Public Interest Litigation.

Nedunuri Krishnamurthy: Acclaimed Carnatic vocalist, he passed away on 8 Decmber 2014 at age 87. He did yeomen service to the spread of Carnatic Music and was the person under whose guidance Dr M.S. Subbalakshmi rendered the “Annamacharya Keerthanas” in the TTD (Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams) project.
