World title for Advani
India’s Billiards prodigy, 29-year-old Pankaj Advani from Bangalore, established a record after he humbled Peter Gilchrist 6-2 in the final of the World Billiards championship (on points), held at Leeds. Advani clinched his 10th individual World title and his third of the year in different formats of the game, also having lifted the World 6-Red Snooker and the World Team Billiards titles earlier.

Pankaj Advani also claimed the World Billiards Championship finals in the Timed Format by beating Robert Hall of England.

CRICKET
India-West Indies ODI Series
West Indies defeated India by 124 runs in the first ODI, powered by a century by Marlon Samuels. Battling self-doubt, Samuels made the most of this opportunity as he blasted a whirlwind hundred, his sixth ODI ton, to guide West Indies to 321 for six. India were bowled out for 197 in 41 overs.

Pakistan-Australia Test Series
Pakistan spinners Zulfiqar Babar and Yasir Shah took nine wickets in the second innings as the hosts beat Australia by 221 runs in the first Test to take a 1-0 lead in the two-match series being held in Dubai.

HOCKEY
Johor Cup
Harmanpreet Singh converted two penalty corners to help India sucessfully defend their Sultan of Johor Cup U-21 hockey title, beating Great Britain 2-1 in a keenly-contested final.

TENNIS
WTA Championship
The Indo-Zimbabwean combination of Sania Mirza and Cara Black ended the season and their partnership on a remarkable high by clinching the season-ending WTA doubles title finale with a comprehensive triumph over Su-Wei Hseih of Chinese Taipei and Shuai Peng of China.

Serena Williams destroyed Romania’s Simona Halep to win the WTA Singles title.
